Written By: Henry Josephson and Ethne Laude
I watch you flee the dark, the looming fall,
Unable to accept the end of days.
I’m lurking in your shadow, long and tall.
You know you don’t have long ‘till I allay
Your fears and pointless duties in my arms:
An open invitation to be free.
I’ll keep you, prone, away from earthly harm,
Reward your faith and save you: safe, alee.
So why eschew the shelter I beget?
With bloodshot eyes you run alone, in vain.
You know failed flights end always in regret,
You’ve learned all nights will end in my domain.
Give up your fight. You know that you’ve been beat.
Embrace me as you curl beneath your sheet.
Henry Josephson, currently a freshman at the University of Chicago, was once put in time-out by his first-grade teacher for reading too much. His poetry has heretofore only been published in his school’s aptly-named literary journal, Word, so he’s excited to make his online debut with Sueños!
